Beach & Coastal
Beach content has the same problem as Florida content: most of it is written by people who've never lived at a beach. They confuse high tide with riptide, miss the seasonal jellyfish patterns, and recommend swimming spots that locals know are dangerous in July.
We live on the Emerald Coast, have a decade of beach observation, and a small obsession with the rip-current flag system. The beach guides on this site are written for people who actually want to swim, take their kids in the water, or walk a dog at sunset without paying a $200 fine.
Coverage is weighted to the Gulf Coast (Northwest Florida, Alabama, Mississippi) because that's where the calm-water, kid-friendly beaches live. Atlantic-side coverage will grow as we visit more.
Safety pieces are non-negotiable here. Rip currents kill more Americans annually than sharks, hurricanes, and lightning combined. The flag system has changed in 2026 in a few states. The guide is updated.
Whether you're booking a family trip, picking a dog-friendly stretch, or trying to figure out which month the water's actually swimmable in Northwest Florida, the breakdowns below should help.
